A Sower Went Out to Sow
Text: Matthew 13:1-9
Reflection and Question: I confess it is hard to believe that the people who heard this parable did not understand it’s meaning. Or perhaps experience in the church reflects this wisdom so clearly that we have learned its truth through living it. The seeds of the Gospel are scattered and are then received in a host of different ways, quickly but shallowly, exposed to scorching by the sun, choked by thorns, or in various depths of good soil, bringing forth different harvests. The great thing is there is no judgment given, just a description of wide possibility. In which of these ways do you receive the Gospel?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, bless our eyes that we may see and our ears that we may hear so that we may know Your Gospel when You offer it to us. Find in us good soil, which produces abundantly to the glory of Your Holy Name. Amen.
This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
